I am a first year PhD student in Astrophysics at the University of Vienna, currently working on identifying and characterizing large-scale structures in the solar neighborhood using 3D dust maps.
On the side, I am an editor for the Star Formation Newsletter. If you are interested in star formation, would like to recieve the newsletter monthly, or want to submit an abstract, feel free to visit us at starformationnews.org!
Recent Research
Focusing on the largest scales in Gaia-based 3D dust maps, we find a pattern of seven highly elongated, mostly parallel structures in the local \(\sim\)5 kpc\(^2\), five of which were previously unknown. These findings establish a new framework for understanding how large-scale Galactic structures shape the conditions for star formation in the solar vicinity, and likely in galaxies like the Milky Way.
Interactive figures are available for the HOP clouds, as well as the superclouds.
